Job shop coating is an efficient way to improve the corrosion performance of machined parts in steel, stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloys (e.g. Hastelloy). Tantalum is almost immune to most corrosion media and tantalum coating may be considered as an all-round solution for problems involving corrosion. 

Tantalum Technologies' patented coating technology produces a 100% pinhole-free chemical pure tantalum surface on the substrate.

Full Corrosion resistance by few microns of tantalum coating

Decades of intensive research have brought Tantalum Technologies into a world-leading position within tantalum coating technology. Tantaline Tantalum Coatings are designed to supply a 100% pinhole free diffusion barrier towards corrosion. By Tantalum Technologies’ coating a pinhole free tantalum layer is deposited on the substrate surface. This tantalum layer is resistant in demanding environments like hot concentrated acids. The corrosion resistance of a Tantalum Technologies coated product is comparable to a product made from solid tantalum, glass or platinum.

In principle a Tantalum Technologies tantalum layer down to 1-3 microns (0.1 mils) can supply full corrosion protection of a metallic substrate. For technical applications we will however typically recommend thickness in the region 20 microns (1 mil) to 0.1 mm (5 mils).

A composite solution with optimum adherence

Tantalum Technologies’ coatings are produced at temperatures above 600°C (1100°F). A metallurgical bonding to the metal substrates and a tension free interface eliminate risks of delaminating. For this reason a product coated by Tantalum Technologies may in fact be considered as a substrate-tantalum composite rather than a traditional “coated” product.
